The Emerging Nurse Leader

Leadership Essentials

for Nurse Leaders in Long Term Care
Preparing the Garden”

A Three Day Certificate Program

Leadership for registered staff is not new. Registered staff have long been called upon to provide leadership in the provision of care in long term care organizations, and have done so with skill, efficiency and professionalism.  Today the demand for leadership from professional nurses extends beyond care practices to include broader organizational issues.

It is in the face of such challenges that Silver Meridian has developed the Emerging Nurse Leader Program, a new and unique approach to working with registered staff and their organizations to overcome gaps in nurses’ leadership skills. By tuning into the sensitivities of the nurse as caregiver, and building on existing strengths, the program assists the professional nurse in the acquisition and practice of new skills required of the complete nurse leader.

The Emerging Nurse Leader – “Preparing the Garden” Certificate Program has been designed from an adult education perspective, recognizing the needs of women as learners and incorporating these principles into teaching strategies and approaches. Participants are provided a supportive environment in which they experiment with leadership concepts: reflecting, sharing, collaborating and emerging from the program with a renewed sense of commitment to their changing roles as Nurse Leaders.

The Emerging Nurse Leader – “Preparing the Garden” Certificate Program reflects the value of working on fundamental leadership strategies. The first training day is followed by an interval of time for completion of a practicum related to session content. This provides an opportunity to apply new leadership skills into personal practice. The process is repeated on Day Two, with a follow-up in Day Three.
