The PSW Leadership Program
"Level 1: Stepping into a PSW Leadership Role in LTC"
This 6-day certificate program advances skills of PSW’s in, or aspiring to, a managerial role. The timing is ideal, given the non-nursing workload demands on registered nurses, their limited availability, and changing expectations in LTC. Accountabilities and responsibilities of the PSW leader are advanced through this training program, focusing on maintaining relationships in the transition to leader, coaching and mentoring, communicating assertively and building teams. Other key leadership issues include recruiting, hiring, performance appraisals, organizing and coordinating the activities of others, maintaining standards & holding others accountable and utilizing basic computer software. Inspired Leadership "Skills for the Management Team"
Managers in LTC serve a diverse staff and are responsible for a variety of functions, but primary leadership skills remain the same. In this 3-day program, managers from every department learn how to incorporate the home’s mission & values into their leadership role, develop dynamic leadership skills to enhance relationships with their staff, and demonstrate assertive skills when faced with challenges of holding others accountable. Managers are encouraged to provide peer review and support throughout the program, and accountabilities to senior managers and corporate leaders are reinforced. Home Grown Leaders "Developing Leaders for Tomorrow"
The highly participatory six-day training program is for staff who aspire to lead. Whether looking to move up in the organization or to becoming a more effective leader amongst peers, the program provides participants a thorough grounding in key leadership techniques and approaches. Participants develop & implement personal leadership action plans over three months of the program and beyond. Not only do new managers integrate more quickly and successfully, but with a 60%+ success rate in terms of internal promotions, there is an increase in retention rates and improved employee morale. Head office, administrators and managers are encouraged to join the process as facilitators.

Dealing with conflict is seldom a favourite leadership task, but it is essential for success. By focusing on the three key elements of effective conflict management, leaders learn conflict prevention, resolution and containment. Leaders practice specific strategies needed to handle all such situations fairly, firmly and tactfully back in the home.
Powerhouse Teams
Your leaders know that teamwork makes sense, but getting a group of people to work together is the challenge. Developing a Powerhouse Team is about going beyond basic teamwork.
Participants learn techniques to foster teams within, and across departments. Through shared visions facilitating listening and cooperation, leading effective meetings and strategy sessions, and overcoming blockages to problem-solving, leaders develop the skills to create their own Powerhouse Teams.
